GREEN BY NAME, GREEN BY NATURE

I am sure you are starting to hear more and more information circulating in the events industry regarding our impact on the environment. I was fascinated and shocked to learn a number of startling stats and facts at a recent seminar held in Sydney. Recent research conducted by the Carbon Reduction Institute (CRI) indicates our industries biggest contributors to our carbon footprint is flying and waste. There are many ways in which you can help to reduce your contribution by calculating your footprint and reviewing your policy and procedures. Visit the
CRI website to find out more www.noco2.com.au
Limelight Events is actively aware of the changing climate and consequently, workplace environments around the world. We have recently formed an internal green committee whose primary focus over the next few months will be reviewing our footprint both in the office and offsite at events. As part of our policy, we will contribute to our local and broader community by engaging on three different levels; social, economic and environmental. Some of our initiatives will include:
- Contribute financially to a global charity
- Support our local community, be it as specific as Port Melbourne
- Continue to develop an environmentally friendly company policy
It is encouraging to hear a number of key players are also very proactive. The Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau have also been very busy over the last year researching Melbourne’s impact on global warming. MCVB has recently published Australia’s first audit of Green Credentials, highlighting where we sit in the world, local green initiatives and a very handy list of experts and information of green suppliers in the events industry.
